Deadline For Health Insurance Under Federal Extension

MIAMI (CBSmiami/AP) — Time is running out for people who don't have health insurance and don't want to be 'dinged' by the government for not having it.
Thursday, April 30th, is the last day to sign up for it under the special tax-filing enrollment extension. Individuals who do not have health insurance by the end of the day will have to pay roughly $325 or 2 percent of their income, whichever is higher.
Earlier this year, federal health officials announced a limited special enrollment period for uninsured consumers who did not realize they would be fined for not having health coverage.
After Thursday, consumers will have to wait until the fall to buy insurance unless they have a life-changing event like getting married, moving or giving birth.
Florida led the way with enrollment under the Affordable Care Act with nearly 1.6 million signing up, including first time-enrollees and renewals from last year.
