NAPLES (CBSMiami/AP) — The body of a young male Florida panther was found in Collier County.

Wildlife officials said it had been hit by a car. They believe the panther was between 14 and 16 months old. The remains will be taken to Gainesville for a necropsy.

Eleven Florida panthers have been found dead in state so far this year, nine died after being hit by vehicles.

Florida panthers once roamed the entire southeastern U.S., but only around 180 remain in the wild.
