MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Cuban workers are preparing the flag mast at the U.S. embassy in Havana.

The spot where the U.S. flag will be flying could be seen.

Secretary of State John Kerry will officially inaugurate the embassy in Havana on August 14th.

The move comes weeks after the U.S. reopened its Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. after more than 50 years. It was the first time the U.S. has had diplomatic relations with Cuba since 1961 but many said Fidel Castro's past deeds cannot be overlooked and that it's wrong to reward his regime. However, others believe it's time for a change.

Despite the openings, President Barack Obama says there are many other changes that need to take place and he has called on Congress to end the Cuban embargo.

CBS4 Anchor Rick Folbaum will be reporting live from Cuba at the embassy opening ceremony next week in Havana.
