Coral Gables Hires New City Manager

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Coral Gables has a new City Manager.

On Tuesday they announced that J. Anthony "Jim" Beard accepted the position.

Beard, a Certified Treasury Professional, was formerly the Chief Financial Officer for Atlanta and Treasurer for the Clerk and Comptroller of Palm Beach County, according to bondbuyer.com

Beard graduated Florida International University with duel bachelor's degrees in Finance and International Business. He earned his Masters of Business Administration degree from the J. L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Beard is the first African-American City Manager in Coral Gables.

This is not the only change for the city in the last few weeks.

Last Thursday, Sept. 11th, they named police Major Ed Hudak as interim police chief. Hudak took over, at least temporarily, for Chief Dennis Weiner who resigned the day before. Hudak has been with the department for 26 years.

Weiner resigned amid mounting pressure after a number of homes were burglarized and residents complained that he was not doing enough to address the situation.
