ST. PETERSBURG (CBSMiami/AP) — A joyriding 15-year old slammed into a toddler who was riding a bike in the Tampa Bay Area and sped off, authorities said.

St. Petersburg police say the teen who does not have a license took his mother's van without permission Tuesday and hit 3-year-old D'andre Bush Jr. The toddler was riding his bike with his mother in an alley.

Authorities say the teen stopped but drove off after the victim's mother confronted him. The Associated Press is not naming him because he's a minor.

The child was treated for minor injuries and released. Authorities found the van and interviewed the teen's mother, who said he took it without her permission.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and not having a valid license.
