Conservative Groups Protest Marriage Equality Lawsuits

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Conservative groups gathered Monday on the steps of the Miami-Dade County Courthouse to speak about the pending lawsuit filed by six same-sex couples in Florida.

The Christian Family Coalition, and other conservative groups, say that this is a matter of democracy not homosexuality.

The gay marriage case, which goes before Judge Sarah Zabel Wednesday, states that same sex couples are denied rights, dignity and equality, but the Christian Coalition and others say in 2008 voters defined marriage as between a man and a woman, so if the clerk of court, Harvey Ruvin, signs what they call 'fake marriage licenses,' they said Monday that he will prosecuted.

Watch Cynthia Demos's report.

"Mr. Ruvin, and this is just a question, does that mean that you will sell fake homosexual marriage licenses? Don't you care about creating chaos and confusion among the public, Mr. Ruvin?" said Anthony Verdugo, with the Christian Family Coalition.

Ruvin responded to the conservative groups' protest by saying Monday that, "In all cases I'm comply with the court order. It's inappropriate to talk about a pending case," said Clerk of Court Ruvin.
