MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The City of Miami Police Department is investigating a string of break-ins that may have been perpetrated by the same suspect.

There have been a number of incidents in which someone has gained entry into homes while the victims were asleep in their beds.

Two separate times a victim inside their home woke up to see an intruder standing nearby.

Both times the offender fled when noticing the victim had awoken.

The burglaries have occurred between 27th and 47th Avenues, near Flagler Street.

"We're all worried. Everybody is locking their doors, changing their locks," neighbor Barbara Perez told CBS4's Lauren Pastrana. "We're keeping an eye out, seeing if there's anybody suspicious we're told to call in."

Perez said police stopped by the apartment complex where she lives Monday and handed out a flyer with a sketch of a man wearing a hoodie.

She said two of her neighbors were victims.

In April, CBS4 was at the apartment complex after a woman reported finding a man inside her home in the middle of the night.

"He was on my bed," said the woman who did not want to be identified. "He told me to stop screaming and I asked him not to kill me."

According to police, the earliest known incident took place in April of 2014 but the most recent occurred on May 12, 2015.

They generally happen in the early morning hours before sunrise.

The City of Miami Police Department released a composite sketch of the offender.

On Thursday members of both the Miami PD and the local community will be meeting at Kinlock Park.  They are planning to fan out around the area in hopes of gathering additional information so the subject can be stopped.

"That's ridiculous," Rocky Hidalgo said of the crime spree. "I think they need to have more surveillance or something because they told me over there they broke in to two apartments."

"Obviously it's somebody that's not well," Perez said. "But he's out here. So we have to be careful."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami Police Burglary Unit at (305) 603-6030.

Anonymous tips can be made by calling Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
