MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Hillary Clinton made her concession speech Wednesday morning asking supporters to look to the future.

"We must accept this result and look to our future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead," said Clinton.

Trump's triumph over Clinton was not declared until well after midnight. Clinton called Trump to concede but did not plan on speaking until the next morning.

On Wednesday, she wished the best for her competitor.

"I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans," said Clinton.

She acknowledged the pain of her loss in her dream to become the first woman president.

"This is painful and it will be for a long time, but I want you to remember this campaign was not about just one person. It's about the country we love," said Clinton.

Clinton said she was honored for being part of the race.

"Being your candidate has been one of the greatest honors of my life," said Clinton.

Despite her loss, Clinton urged the younger generation to keep fighting and not lose hope.

"Our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part to keep building that stronger, fairer America we seek," said Clinton.

And she had an inspirational message to those beyond her supporters.

"You will have successes and setbacks. They will hurt but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it," said Clinton.

To women, she said, "nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion."

On a final note, she urged Americans to remain united.

"We are stronger together and we will move forward together," said Clinton.

Her vice presidential pick Tim Kaine, spoke before Clinton came out saying she was proud of her.

"I am proud of Hillary Clinton because she has been and is a great history maker," said Kaine.

He talked up Clinton and her love for the country.

"She knows our country for what it is...She's deeply in love with it," said Kaine.

In Florida, Clinton took Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in a landslide. She also took Orlando, Tampa- St. Petersburg, Gainesville and Tallahassee.

Trump took 58 of Florida's 67 counties including Monroe County. His win ended eight years of Democratic dominance of the White House.

In his victory speech, Trump asked Americans to unite saying he would work for every American.

"I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be President for all Americans and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, in which there were a few people, I am reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country," he said. "As I have said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign, but rather an incredible and great movement."

Trump, the 45th president, will come into power with a Congress that is fully under Republican control. Despite that. Trump will have to deal with fractures within his own party.

On Thursday, he will meet with President Barack Obama to talk about a smooth transition.

Following election night, Obama had a few words for Americans and what's next.

The president first acknowledged their differences.

"It is no secret the president-elect and I have some pretty significant differences," said Obama.

Despite differences, he said he would help Trump and his team transition into the White House smoothly.

"We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country," said the president.

As for Clinton, the president said he was proud of her.

"I could not be prouder of her. She has led an extraordinary life of public service," said President Obama.

To reiterate Trump and Clinton's message,he reminded Americans that we are all on the same team and urged them to work together and stay united.
