MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Are toll hikes taking a toll on you? Two citizen action groups think so.

Leaders of RollBackTolls.com and D.R.I.V.E. (Drivers Ready to Improve, Vote and Empower) attended a 4 p.m. Tuesday meeting of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority Board of Directors.

During the Citizen Comment portion of the meeting, the groups urged MDX to sign a petition to give Floridians the power to vote on tolls.

The petition aims to amend the state constitution to require any new toll increases to be put to a public vote.

Of the 13 people that make up the MDX board, only one signed the petition.

The group needs 700,000 signatures to get the "No More Tolls" amendment on the November 2016 presidential election ballot.

If you want to sign the petition, you can visit www.NoMoreTolls.us.
