MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- It's a spectacular flight into a magical world at Cirque du Soleil's Varekai, opening Wednesday night at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.

Earlier in the day, rehearsals were underway as super strong aerialists and acrobats fine-tuned their sometimes death-defying routines.

"It's a one of a kind event for the entire family. We have live music aerialists, gravity defying acts, comedy, there's really something for everyone," said Cirque Unit Publicist Julie Desmarais.

Karren McKenan from New Hampshire is a solo aerialist who choreographed her own number in the show. She says every performance is thrilling.

"It's just that feeling when you fly. It makes you feel like anything is possible so hopefully the audience will get that feeling that way for a little bit when they are watching," said McKenan.

From a group of 29 street performers back in 1984, Cirque du Soleil now has some 4,000 employees including 1,300 artists from 50 different countries. Vladimir from Russia is second generation juggler who showed CBS4's Lisa Petrillo a few tricks.

Aside from the death-defying acts, costumes are a huge part of the show. All are handmade and there are over 1,000 in this show.

Varekai, where adventure, wonder and world-class artistry come to together for a fantastical night of entertainment. It's on at the BB&T Center through August 23rd. Click here for ticket information.
