Christmas Eve Hit & Run Victim In Coma, Amid Search For Culprit

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A motorcyclist struck on Christmas Eve in Pompano Beach remains in a medically induced coma while he awaits pelvic surgery to repair fractures.

Robert Games, 43, was stopped at a light on Federal Highway at NW 14th Street around 8:30 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a truck. The truck's driver kept going.

Games was rushed to Broward Health North in very serious condition. In addition to his pelvic injuries, Games had several fractures in his arms and legs.

Games' brother in law Joe Gulotta said the family cannot make sense of it.

"‪It's hard for us to comprehend how anybody could hit somebody like that and just keep going, not pay attention," Gulotta told CBS 4's Carey Codd. "They had to know they hit somebody. How could you not stop and find out what happened?"

At Service Choice Pest Control where Games works, his boss Paul McGee is sending flyers out with every invoice. They are asking for customers to donate to a fund to help Games pay for his mounting medical expenses.

"‪He's a hard working guy and he could use the support," McGee said. "So we're trying to get some help from our customer base and others to raise money to cover Rob's out of pocket expenses."

Games' brother Raymond flew into South Florida from New York once he heard the news.

He said his brother was expected to undergo surgery Tuesday afternoon; however, the surgery was postponed because he was not physically up to it.

Raymond said the accident has been difficult for his parents to handle after they already lost a child several years ago.

"It's a rough time," he said. "There's nothing you can say you can only be there for them. That's all you can do."

The family says the question now is how much mobility Robert will have and they know it will be a long road to recovery.

The truck that hit Robert Games was described as a black or dark blue, older model 2001-2006 Chevy pickup, with a partial tag of IB7 or 1B7.  It also has the word "Chevrolet" in white letters on the tailgate.

Anyone with information about the location of the truck or its driver should contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or browardcrimestoppers.org.

A reward of up to $3,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
