MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A four-year-old girl was placed in her uncle's care by the state after she was found wandering the streets of a Miami neighborhood alone overnight.

William Pratt was outside of his apartment at NW 65th Street and 13th Court early Wednesday morning when he saw a very young girl who was by herself.

"I saw a little girl around 1 a.m. wandering around. She wasn't talking, we called the police," said Pratt. "They came and walked around with her to find out where she was staying."

The girl was then taken to a police sub-station on NW 62nd Street where investigators questioned her about her parents and where she lived.

She was then turned over to the Department of Children and Families until police could locate family members.

The DCF said they do have a prior history with the girl's family.

A DCF spokeswoman told CBS4's Peter D'Oench the child is okay. There is no hearing scheduled at this point.

Police said they are still investigating and it's clear at this point if charges will be filed in this case.
