Charges Dropped Against Taxi Driver Arrested For Allegedly Attacking Passenger

WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) – The charges against a taxi cab driver for allegedly attacking a passenger have been dropped.

The investigation against Ronald Smith, 61, revealed inconsistencies in the passenger's story, according to Wilton Manors Police.

Probable cause of the arrest, according to police, was based on the alleged victim's sworn statement.

After Smith was arrested, detectives revealed not only inconsistencies, but also found that the alleged victim embellished key elements of the crime, according to police.

When detectives confronted the alleged victim with the new information, police said she admitted to lying regarding several important facts.

Smith was released from jail.

The alleged victim now faces potential criminal charges.
