COCOA (CBSMiami/AP) — A lockdown of a Florida community college has been lifted.

The school was placed under lockdown following a threat of violence to the school located along the Space Coast.

Officials with Eastern Florida State College on Tuesday posted an alert on the school's official Twitter account and on its website, saying someone had threatened gun violence at the Cocoa, Florida, campus.

Sheriff's deputies investigated the threat.

Just before 11:30 a.m., the school officials lifted the lockdown saying the campus was deemed safe. However, they did cancel classes for the rest of the day.

The public college offers technical degrees and bachelor's degrees to students located primarily in Brevard County.
