Carvalho Unveils School Budget Proposal

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho has released his budget recommendation for the next school year.

The proposal is set at $4.8 billion, an increase of $330 million from the previous year.

"This Board has made history and a name for itself in developing year after year a values based budget," said Carvalho in unveiling his plan. "A budget that embraces the values and principles that this board believes in."

Carvalho's proposal will support new magnet programs, new technology for classrooms and expand class schedules for several high school. It also increases funding for school safety/security.

The first hearing on the budget is scheduled for July 29th with with a final budget hearing on September 9th.
