FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- An infant has been found unharmed, still sitting in the back seat, after his mother's car was stolen earlier in North Lauderdale.

Broward authorities say 2-month-old Jeremiah Jason Moise was found inside the car, with the engine left running, on the side of the road at State Road 7 and Prospect Road Saturday afternoon.

The burgandy Nissan Murano with tag number 048-XEM was taken around 11 a.m. from a North Lauderdale plaza, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Saturday morning, the car owner drove to a business at 995 Rock Island Rd. and stepped out of the car momentarily to speak with the manager.

"The mother and the manager were standing on the sidewalk next to the vehicle as a man walked past them," BSO said in a statement to the media. "It appears once the man noticed the car engine was on, he ran to the driver's side and jumped in the vehicle. The woman's 10-year-old daughter and 2-month-old son were in the back seat. The young girl tried to grab her brother as she rushed out of the vehicle, but was unsuccessful."

The suspect drove away.

Anyone with information on the thief is asked to call authorities.
