Car Crashes Into Small Fort Lauderdale Supermarket

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – There were no serious injuries Friday morning when the driver of car crashed in a business in Fort Lauderdale.
It happened at the Artibonite Latin Supermarket at the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Powerline Road.
Surveillance video from inside the store shows the car crashing through the front window.
While nobody was hurt, it could have been much worse.
According to the owner of the store, Dares Soto, his 4-month-old child and wife had been next to the window shortly before the crash.
"If he would have been there," explained Soto's wife, Jackie Cilis, "everything would have fallen on top of him, everything – the glass, the cigarettes, the shelves. Everything would have fallen on him."
Cilis and 4-month-old Yandiel are normally both behind the counter, but they had to go on a run for produce.
They left about five minutes before the car drove into the parking lot and right through the front window.
"I'm very thankful that we left," said Cilis. "I'm lucky. We're ok!"
Soto, who was behind the counter, came very close to being seriously injured.
He moved just eight seconds before the car smashed through the window.
He told CBS4's Ted Scouten he realizes that had he stayed by the cash register, he could have been killed.
Everything hit him in the back he said. He's feeling some pain, but he's okay.
The couple said the driver told them she hit the gas instead of the brake, causing her to drive into the store.
Despite the mess, they feel very lucky. The window can be replaced, but their little boy is priceless.
