MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Customers of Atlantic Broadband were left without service for much of New Year's Day.

The outage started after a car crash overnight damaged lines that serviced much of Miami Beach and Miami.

According to tweets from Atlantic Broadband, Florida Power and Light had to make repairs before Atlantic Broadband crews could restore the fiber that provides the services.

Officials said the damage was extensive and would take several hours to repair.

By 10:20 p.m., the company reported 97 percent of customers were once again back in service.
