Would-be car burglar killed in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI - A would-be car burglar was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in northwest Miami-Dade.

According to Miami-Dade police, around 2:30 a.m. officers were sent to the area of 79th Avenue and NW 194th Street to check out reports of a person who had been shot.

Two people were trying to break into a car in front of a home, which is across the street from Spanish Lake Elementary School, when they were caught in the act by the vehicle's owner. During the confrontation, the car's owner pulled a gun and shot one of them.

The injured man, identified as 23-year-old Oscar Aneudy Suarez,  got in a waiting vehicle and attempted to drive off. After crashing into several cars, he came to a stop. A passenger in the vehicle jumped out and ran off.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue declared the Suarez dead.

Police caution against the public taking the law into their own hands.

"We urge any citizen if they find themselves being a victim of a crime not to confront these subjects. It is very dangerous. You don't know how the situation might end, so we urge the community that if you find yourself the victim of a crime, do not confront the subjects. Please contact the police. We will do everything in our power to find justice for these incidents," said Miami-Dade police Det. Andre Martin.

Police said it's not known at this time if the man who fired the weapon will be charged.
