Little Change In Strength For Tropical Storm Fred

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – After weakening earlier, Tropical Storm Fred has maintained its intensity as it moves away from the northwestern Cape Verde Islands.
As of 11 p.m, the center of the system was located about 410 miles northwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Its maximum sustained winds have stayed at 50 mph. Fred's forward speed bumped up slightly from 12 to 13. The storm's general motion is expected to continue with some decrease in forward speed during the next couple of days.
Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles from the center.
Additional weakening is expected during the next 48 hours, and Fred is forecast to become a tropical depression by late Wednesday.
Rainfall will be diminishing across the northwestern Cape Verde Islands this morning as Fred continues to move away from the Cape Verde Islands.
All Tropical Storm Warnings for the Cape Verde Islands have been discontinued.
