Canes' Tonye Jekiri Named ACC Player Of The Week

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – Several players on the Miami Hurricanes basketball team have been playing great so far this season.

The Hurricanes are off to an impressive 5-0 start, with two of those wins coming against ranked opponents.

Miami just returned from winning the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament and on Monday were ranked No. 15 in the new AP Top 25 Poll.

Along with the team's successes, one of its players is also being recognized.

Hurricanes' senior center Tonye Jekiri has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week.

Jekiri was also named to the Puerto Rico Tip-Off All-Tournament Team after averaging 13.3 points on 71.4% shooting, 11.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 28.0 minutes of the three games Miami played.

On the season the 7-foot center is averaging 10.2 points, 10.0 rebounds 1.2 assists and 0.8 blocks per game in 27.0 minutes.

He's shooting 59.4% from the field and 81.3% from the foul line.

The Hurricanes next game is on Friday at 4 p.m. against Northwestern at the Bank United Center.
