CORAL GABLES (The Sports Xchange) -- Guard Ja'Quan Newton came off the bench to set career highs in points and rebounds to spark 15th-ranked Miami to an 85-63 victory over College of Charleston Saturday.

The sophomore scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half as the Hurricanes (9-1) ended an 11-day layoff for final exams to post their fourth consecutive victory.

The Cougars (7-3) cut a nine-point halftime deficit down to three points, 43-40, early in the second half, but the Hurricanes went on a 12-2 run to retake command. The Hurricanes led by as many as 28 points with just under four minutes left.
