PLANTATION (CBSMiami) - An argument on a Broward transit bus ended in a deadly shooting  in the middle of the street early Thursday morning in Plantation.

"I heard five shots. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom," said Janet Miller who lives close by to the shooting scene.

Plantation Police said just after 6 a.m., two passengers on the bus at the stop on 441 near NW 8th Street had an argument. That's when one of the men pulled a gun and shot the other, police said.

"When they got off the bus, there was some sort of altercation. The victim ended up getting shot and eventually died and we have a suspect at large," said Detective Philip Toman with Plantation Police.

Police said the victim, 27-year-old Simeon Anthony Smith, was transported to Broward General Hospital but did not survive.

Thursday evening, the Plantation Police Department released surveillance video in hopes of generating new leads.  One of the surveillance videos shows Smith on a Broward transit bus and the suspect, who's wearing a red shirt, red shorts and a black backpack.  They appear to exchange words while on the bus.

Another surveillance video released by police from a nearby convenience store shows the suspect walking in.

It's not clear if the men knew one another or if they were just strangers who crossed paths on the bus.

"It don't make sense. It's senseless. We need to learn how to get along," said Miller.

Investigators have talked with the bus driver and are asking anyone who was on Broward County Bus #503 Route 18 from the Golden Glades at 6:10 a.m., or anyone else who may have witnessed what happened, to give them a call at (954) 797-2100.
