POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that left a man dead Tuesday afternoon in Pompano Beach.

BSO deputies responded to a shooting call at around 4 p.m. in the front courtyard of a Pompano Beach residence at 616 NW 5th Ave.

Witnesses told BSO 31-year-old Patrick Jean had been shot and that friends had rushed him to Broward Health North Medical Center. Jean was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Detectives said as Jean played dominoes with friends in the courtyard, a vehicle pulled up and some men who were known to the victim got out. There was reportedly a dispute and one of the men from the vehicle pulled out a gun and began firing.
