BSO Makes Arrest In Fatal Hit And Run In North Lauderdale

NORTH LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office has arrested the alleged driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 41-year-old man on Saturday.

Authorities said an Irish tourist was crossing U.S. 441 in North Lauderdale with two friends. They were heading back from a bar to their hotel.

BSO said 35-year-old Richard Jennings hit the tourist with his girlfriend's black BMW X3 at around 4:55 a.m. and then fled.

North Lauderdale Fire Rescue rushed the victim to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An apparent acquaintance of Jennings, who saw the damaged vehicle, notified BSO.

Detectives arrested Jennings at his Hollywood home shortly after 6 p.m.
