BSO Investigating Deadly Car Vs. Pedestrian Crash

WEST PARK (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office spend Thursday morning on the scene of a deadly traffic crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The crash occurred at Hallandale Beach Boulevard and U.S. 441 in West Park.

According to detectives, the crash was reported at 6:47 a.m.

Officials said 56-year-old James Mattson was killed when he was struck by Christina Cancellare, 27.

Detectives said Cancellare saw the man lying in the road in front of her and she slammed on brakes to try and avoid him, but could not.

Officials said it was unclear why Mattson was lying in the road.

Cancellare was not intoxicated, according to detectives and she stayed at the crash scene to assist police.
