BSO Identifies Cyclist Killed By Tri-Rail Train

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - The Broward Sheriff's Office has released the name of the Plantation man who died Monday after he was struck by a Tri-Rail train.

Jerry Smith, 53, was on his Fuji bicycle heading west on Stirling Road just after 4:30 p.m., when he came to the train tracks near Ravenswood Road.

The sheriff's office said despite the flashing lights and bells indicating a train was coming, Smith maneuvered around the safety gates and was hit.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue pronounced Smith deceased at the scene.
