BSO: Driver Leaves Scene Of Deadly Crash & Tries To Hide Evidence

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A woman is behind bars accused of hitting and killing a motorcyclist in Pompano Beach on Friday then trying to cover the evidence, according to deputies.

Broward Sheriff's deputies said Nadia Verdoni, 42, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

It happened just after 9:30 p.m., when police say, Verdoni was driving a Ford SUV northbound in the left turn lane of North Federal Highway. She was trying to turn left onto NE 4th Street and turned on a solid green traffic light into the path of southbound traffic.

The motorcyclist, Benjamin Piorsky, 30,  who was traveling southbound, tried to brake but ended up hitting the back of Verdoni's car causing him to be ejected from the bike.

Verdoni left the scene of the crash.

According to BSO, when deputies appeared at her home, they found her trying to cover up the damage to her car using a tarp.

Piorsky was pronounced dead at the scene.

Verdoni faces chages of DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene involving death and tampering with evidence.
