FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Just in time for the holidays, hundreds of children got a new set of wheels.

Broward Sheriff's Deputies including Sheriff Scott Israel gathered in front of the Ron Cochran Public Safety Building and joined children invited to the event.

Dressed as Santa, Sheriff Israel, greeted about 300 children and presented them with a shiny new bike donated by Wings of Gold and Walmart.

"We want every child to walk out of our building Saturday morning with a smile on their face," Sheriff Israel said before the event. "Their holidays are going to be a little brighter thanks to the generosity of Wings of Gold and Walmart."

Those who received bikes were selected by Broward Sheriff's Office deputies throughout the county who encounter families in need.
