FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Broward judge who was charged last year after she hit a parked Broward Sheriff deputy's car in the courthouse parking lot has resigned.

Judge Lynn Rosenthal, who was facing a disciplinary hearing stemming from actions, will leave the bench effective October 31st, according to The Sun-Sentinel.

Rosenthal was originally charged with DUI for the May 27th incident. A state attorney, however, reduced the charge to reckless driving. Rosenthal was sentenced to three months of probation after she pleaded no contest.

The judge has maintained she took an incorrect dose of the generic form of Ambien CR, a prescribed sleep medication, which she took for the first time the night before the accident for insomnia. Rosenthal also said she had lapse in judgment due to a "personal family crisis."
