Broward Health CEO Found Dead, Ruled Suicide

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA (CBSMiami) -- The president and CEO of Broward Health, Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, shot and killed himself Saturday at his condo in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Just 10 days ago, El Sanadi, 60, had successfully undergone heart bypass surgery, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Officials said they got a call about person who had fallen in a restroom in the condo's lobby. Police later confirmed the self-inflicted shooting and identified El Sanadi.

The Egyptian-born El Sanadi earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and graduated from medical school at Ohio State University. He went on to become chief of emergency medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland and in December 2014, took over as CEO and chief of emergency medicine at Broward Health.

Broward Health is one of the 10 largest public health systems in the country with an annual budget of $1.2 billion.
