Broward County Participates In Statewide Hurricane Exercise
PLANTATION (CBSMiami) - Broward County agencies are participating in a day-long, emergency simulation exercise in Plantation.
The simulation which takes place Wednesday, May 21st comes just before the 2014 hurricane season which starts from June 1st to November 30th.
The exercise is part of a state-wide hurricane preparedness exercise in which a fictional category three hurricane called "Hurricane Jones" has made landfall over Miami-Dade County and affects Broward County with tropical storm force winds for 33 hours.
The simulation tests the county's readiness to respond and recover from an emergency situation like a hurricane. The exercise also allows emergency responders to gain a more hands on experience for disaster preparedness, response and recovery procedures.
The exercise is being sponsored by the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the Broward County Emergency Management Division.
The activity started at 8:30 a.m. a.m. and lasts until 4:00 p.m.
Its set during Hurricane Preparedness Week which stretches from May 19th to May 23rd.
