BOYNTON BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — Two boys who skipped school on Monday were briefly detained by police after they reportedly pointed realistic-looking BB guns at traffic.

Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said they got a 911 call about the boys and sent officers to check it out.

Police say the boys, ages 10 and 12, tossed the guns on the ground when the officers arrived. They reportedly admitted to skipping school and pointing the guns at cars.

Slater said this was a very dangerous situation and it could have ended badly.

The juveniles were later released to the custody of their mother.
