Boy Drowns At Pool Party In Southwest Ranches

DAVIE (CBSMiami) - A children's party in Broward County ended in tragedy after a boy drowned in a swimming pool.

The nine-year-old boy was rushed to Memorial Hospital West after he was found at the bottom of a pool. His family openly sobbed outside the emergency room when they realized he was dead.

The boy's relative told CBS4 he played football at the Cooper City Optimist Club.

Davie police say the nine-year-old was found at the bottom of a pool at a house in Southwest Ranches. The boy was a guest at a children's pool party at the home. Around 6:30 p.m., the boy was found in the pool unresponsive. A neighbor who didn't want to be identified told CBS4 how the adults rushed to find help for the boy.

"All I saw was people running from house to house, trying to get somebody to help," said the neighbor.

Police say they have no reason to believe there was any negligence.
