Bond In Question For Teen Accused In Rabbi Death

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The teen accused of shooting and killing a rabbi made an appearance in court Thursday to determine if a judge would release him on bond while he awaits trial.

The judge heard from both defense and prosecutors who made their case.

Prosecutor Michael Von Zamft told the judge the case against 15-year-old Deandre Charles was largely circumstantial, but that he should remain behind bars until his trial to keep the community safe.

"We have conceded all along that this is a circumstantial evidence case," said Von Zamft.

Von Zamft said he is relying on one eye-witness along with cell phone tower data and DNA profile found at the scene, which links Charles to the murder of 60-year-old Joseph Raksin. The rabbi had been visiting from New York when he was killed in August of 2014.
