CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) -- It was unexpected and unwelcome drama for two male shoppers at a Coral Gables mini mart Saturday.

Surveillance video shows the customers refusing to be robbed by a suspect wearing a green and black camouflage coat. Concealing his face, the robber reportedly demanded everyone on the ground and to empty their pockets or he would shoot.

"He's demanding that they get on the floor and give him their money and empty their pockets or he'll shoot them," said Lauren Poole of the Coral Gables Police.

Instead, police say the victims wrestled the suspect to the ground preventing his escape from the Down Stairs at 5885 Ponce De Leon. They held onto him until police arrived.

That man has been identified as 32-year-old Jovon Maurice Reddick.

In bond court Sunday, Reddick asked the judge to be granted the opportunity to go home because of a special diet.

"I'm an organic eater and I'm, like, starving in this place," said Reddick. "I'm lactose intolerant, I don't digest food well."

When the judge denied his bond due to the alleged attack with a gun, Reddick offered his side.

"Sir, I have a concealed permit and I never withdrew a firearm," Reddick explained.

Reddick has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon while committing an offense.

After he was apprehended by police, he reportedly shouted that he was just joking.
