Bomb Squad Checks Out Suspicious Item On Miami Beach

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — False alarm.

The Miami Beach police department's Bomb Squad was called into action Wednesday after a suspicious item was spotted on a sidewalk in a neighborhood.

The object, described as small pressure cooker, was found by a fence in the 7900 block of Carlyle Avenue.

As a precaution 78th through 80th streets along Byron, Carlyle and Dickens avenues were closed to traffic. Also the Yeshiva Elementary School in the area was placed on a precautionary lockdown.

Members of the city's bomb squad suited up and gave the package a once over. They then used a remote device to determine if it was explosive. It wasn't.

The all clear was then given and the lockdown was lifted.
