Bogdanoff Reels In Funding For Senate Comeback Bid

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - With backing from some major business lobbies, former Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale, collected $104,865 in contributions from Aug. 9 to last Thursday as she seeks to unseat Sen. Maria Sachs, D-Delray Beach, in a high-profile legislative race, according to newly filed finance reports.

Bogdanoff, who started raising money in June, had collected a total of $278,010 as of Thursday while spending $40,977. Sachs, who defeated Bogdanoff in 2012 in Senate District 34, had raised $225,929 as of Thursday and had spent $66,874. The totals for both candidates only reflect money in their campaign accounts and do not include money that could flow into the race from outside political committees.

Nevertheless, Bogdanoff's latest report shows her receiving support from groups and companies such as the Florida Bankers Association, the Florida Retail Federation, Associated Industries of Florida, Charter Schools USA, Verizon and the HCA health-care chain.

The News Service of Florida contributed to this report.
