Body Found Near John U Lloyd Park May Be Missing Diver

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A body found in the vicinity of John U LLoyd State Park in Hollywood may be that of a Pompano Beach man who went missing during a scuba diving outing over the weekend.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirms that a body was found near the park and they were working to determine if it was that of 42-year old Marc Raroha.

Raroha was with a group of five other divers on Saturday, about a mile off Ft. Lauderdale, when he failed to return to the boat.

Marc's father Dave Raroha said when he first heard about what had happened he couldn't believe his son was missing.

"He's been diving for probably 20-years so he's got some experience behind him," said Dave Raroha. "He's registered, certified so he's got the skill set. My fear was from the descriptions of what happened he maybe had some kind of equipment failure. It was all new equipment, but maybe something went defunct."

The search began quickly Saturday afternoon with boats in the water and helicopters in the air.  Ft. Lauderdale police used thermal imaging to try to locate him under the water with no luck.

At this point, it's unclear what happened to Raroha and why he never resurfaced from his dive.

After three days of searching, the Coast Guard suspended their search efforts Monday night.
