Blustein on UM's 7-on-7 Event: 'The Most Talented Event I've Ever Been To'

The South Florida Shootout 7-on-7 tournament was held last Sunday on the University of Miami's campus and it was a great success.

Featuring 48 schools, and some of the most powerful high school football programs in South Florida, it was something SFHS Sports' Larry Blustein thinks was a great way to elite talent on campus, an event he tried to "spearhead since back in the days of Jimmie Johnson."

"All these schools are having these events on their campus," Blustein said on the Joe Rose Show. "Not just the Al Golden five camps which are good and designed to get the kids on your campus but nothing like this. We went and showed up at 9 a.m. and didn't leave to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. It was a day that the University of Miami has to bottle for its recruiting, for its school. They had 48 schools, almost 2,000 people on campus that you never get.

"I can't tell you there's not one coach, player, parent that said anything negative... It was from start to finish, no waiting around, marquee teams and I will say this without hesitation -- this was the most talented event that I've ever been to. Ever. Not even close. You have Central, Booker T, St. Thomas all in one field."

Expect the Canes to make this an annual tradition.
