Blind Tech Exec Helps The Visually Impaired Watch TV

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) -- A blind technology executive has created a product meant to help blind people watch television.
On Thursday, the product was presented at Miami Lighthouse for the Blind's 'See the Light' luncheon at the Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables.
The man behind the product, Tom Wlodkowski, is also blind.
At Thursday's event, he gave a key note speech and demonstrated the product called the "Talking Guide."
The product allows those who are blind or have low vision to operate the television like sighted people. They also added a Spanish language version.
"Announces menu items, announces the TV listings, the on demand title of menus we have for both TV and movies. It allows someone whose blind or visually impaired to schedule and play back a DVR recording," said Wlodkowski.
It's something considered to be the first of its kind.
"For the first time, the visually impaired can independently navigate the set top box interface," said Wlodkowski.
