MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A bicyclist was killed in a hit and run accident early Wednesday morning in Perrine.  The incident was captured by a surveillance cameras from a nearby home.

Miami-Dade police said the man on the bike was struck from behind by a light-colored SUV on SW 102nd Avenue between SW 171st Street and SW 172nd Street around 1:00 a.m.

"The damages to the vehicle may be in the front, in the grill area or the possibly the bumper," said Miami-Dade police Sgt. Francisco Armendariz.

The man's family has identified him as 55-year old Gary King. They said he was either riding to or from his home, which was not far from where he was struck.

Surveillance video shows King riding his bicycle and then stopping on the street for some reason.  A vehicle's headlights are seen approaching from behind before police say a light-colored SUV hit King.  The driver gets out to check on King, only to run back to his vehicle and take off, leaving King to die on the side of the road.

King's cousin, John King, went to the scene after he heard what happened. He picked up remenants of crash from the street, including his cousin's watch.

"Who could do that to an innocent person?" said King who struggled to understand how someone could have left his cousin to die in the street like an animal. "It's something about the world, I don't know what's going on with that."

King acknowledged that fear can be a very motivating factor.

"Vehicle homicide is a different story. The law says you're supposed to stay on the scene. But when you're wrong, and you know you're wrong, you're not gonna stay on no scene," said King.

Still King and his family hoped the driver would do the right thing.

"He didn't deserve it. And if it was your family you would want somebody to stand up for you. Please give yourself up."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police or Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
