MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A new proposal for the MLS Miami stadium site might come to a resolution soon.

According to the South Florida Business Journal, David Beckham and business partners Jorge and Jose Mas want Miami voters to approve a new park at Melreese Country Club.

"The Beckham group is spending a lot off money to transfor this parcel of land to something that all of our residents can enjoy.  It's about a billion dollar investment," said City of Miami Communications Director Eugene Ramirez.

The area of land is located at 1400 Northwest 37th Avenue, just east of Miami International Airport.

On Thursday of next week, city commissioners are expected to consider a resolution to lease more than 70 acres of the Melreese property.

David Beckham and his business partners are expected to present their plans before commissioners.

The city says the plans call for more than just a soccer stadium.

"It's going to be a soccer stadium plus a park plus entertainment and arts and food and beverage venues and a technology hub so it's a better gift to the city of Miami than just building a stadium in Overtown," said Ramirez.

With plans to build a stadium in Overtown apparently now out of the picture, Beckham and his partners are proposing to build a 28,000 seat stadium on about 10 acres, according to the city's agenda.

Plans also call for an approximately 60-acre park.

Soccer fans seem to like the idea.

"I know David with his people will find the best location and find the best way for everybody to get to the games and enjoy the game," said soccer fan Jim Jennings.

Others say they'd like to hear more about the plans.

"It would all depend what they plan for the traffic, the streets and everything, what would be the distribution they would be planning for that," said soccer fan Ms. Abuchaibe.
