MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Bayfront Park celebrated Independence Day Wednesday with live music and activities for children and families.

The park, located at 301 North Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami, is always the host of one of the best July 4th celebrations in South Florida.

"Celebrations include a free kids' zone, food and beverages and the largest free fireworks show in South Florida," organizers said.

There was a children's play area, tons of food, toys and games and lots of police officers keeping a close watch to keep people safe.

There are people from all walks of life united in their love of this country and the freedoms we all enjoy.

We asked a couple of parents what they think about on our nation's 242nd Independence Day.

"I just want them to be thankful for all of our blessings and we're thankful to be living in America," Kristin Oakes, Miami resident, said.

"With independence comes freedom and rights and all that other good stuff that comes with it," attendee Travis Gonzales said.

You can have all the fun you want, but you can't bring coolers, large bags, bottles, cans, and no personal fireworks.

The festivities, which started Wednesday morning, went on until about 11 p.m.

There was a 15-minute fireworks display that began 9 p.m. The event is always touted as the best fireworks show in Miami and this year did not disappoint.

Over 40,000 people were estimated to attend.
