'This Case Is A Homicide': PBSO On 'Baby June' Found Floating In Boynton Beach Inlet

WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami) – "This case is a homicide. It's not going anywhere and we're not going anywhere." That's the word from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Monday while giving an update in the 'Baby June' case. 'Baby June' is the newborn baby whose body was found floating near the Boynton Beach Inlet earlier this year.

An off-duty firefighter spotted the girl's body in June. Investigators say the baby girl was between 4-7 days old and was floating in the ocean for six to 18 hours before being discovered.

According to Capt. Steven Strivelli of the Special Victims Unit at PBSO, the genomic ancestry of the baby is 50-percent Central Asian and 50-percent African ancestry.

"It's very unusual split, most often a person with this 50-50 split would be found in areas like Barbados, Trinidad or Jamaica or from these areas originally," said Capt. Strivelli.

"We have received a total of 16 tips and that's not much for this case and none of the tips have led to anything in this case," said Strivelli.

He explained they have checked on hundreds of babies born in Palm Beach and Broward Counties without any results.

Due to the lack of leads, investigators are hoping the public can provide some insight into the case and help solve the mystery behind 'Baby June.'

A $10,000 reward remains in place.
