Aventura Sinkhole Partially Swallows Car

AVENTURA (CBSMiami) – Crews are cleaning up the mess left behind from a sinkhole in Aventura on Monday afternoon.

According to Aventura police, workers were digging on private property just east of the Courtyard Marriott on 191st St. near 29th Ave. when they ended up hitting a line causing a hole and water to gush out.

While the hole partially swallowed the front end of an SUV.

"It just stopped dead. The front end just dropped about a foot and stopped dead. The engine quit and that was it," said the SUV's owner, William Proudy.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The hole is being patched up now and is expected to take several hours. The gushing water has not affected the area.
