No explosive device found during bomb scare at Home Depot near Zoo Miami, authorities say

MDSO investigates suspicious device at Cutler Ridge Home Depot

A shoplifting arrest led to a bomb scare Wednesday afternoon at a Home Depot store near Zoo Miami in Cutler Ridge, authorities said.

Reports of a suspicious package at the store located in the 19400 block of Southwest 106th Avenue, prompted a large police and fire response before officials determined there was no explosive device.

According to Miami-Dade deputies, the scare began when a shoplifting suspect claimed to have an explosive in his backpack.

Within the hour, the suspect was arrested and the bomb squad X-rayed the backpack, authorities said. Inside, officials found what appeared to be two bottles of laundry detergent, not a bomb.

Residents are urged to avoid the area as police continue their investigation.
