TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Florida's chief financial officer will be staying in Tallahassee. Republican incumbent Jeff Atwater has been elected to another term as Florida's CFO.

Atwater on Tuesday easily beat his opponent, Democrat William Rankin. With more than half the expected vote counted, Atwater held a 58 to 42 percent margin.

The 56-year-old Atwater outspent his opponent handily, raising about $4 million to Rankin's $37,000.

The state's CFO is a member of the Cabinet along with the governor, attorney general and agriculture commissioner.

Atwater also oversees a 2,600-employee agency that includes the state's insurance department and treasury. The CFO also manages a $21.4 billion financial portfolio.
