At Least One Man Hurt In Shooting On I-95 Near Golden Glades Interchange

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Highway Patrol is working a shooting investigation on I-95 near the Golden Glades Interchange where at least one vehicle was struck by gunfire.

"It was discovered that a white 4-door sedan traveling northbound on I95 in the area of NW 151st street began to discharge a firearm at two vehicles that were traveling along side," explained Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho.

The driver of the SUV was lucky, he was not hit.

FHP tells CBS4 the other car was hit several times and the driver was shot. "The driver of the SUV was again, luckily not struck. The driver of the dodge was struck in the area of his left shoulder. Again, non-life-threatening injuries. He was able to drive himself to the medical facility," Lt. Camacho said.

The injured man drove himself to this urgent care at 130th and Biscayne, he was then taken by ambulance to the hospital. Now, investigators are trying to figure out a motive. "From what we understand at this time, this was a random shooting. It doesn't appear that these individuals were targeted. It doesn't appear that both victims know each other. They were just motorists traveling along the roadway at the time this individual just randomly decided to discharge his firearm," Camacho said.

Troopers tell CBS4 it is crucial to find the person who opened fire on a busy interstate.

"Any individual that discharges a firearm in the middle of I95 has absolutely no regard for the safety of other motorists. The individual needs to be caught, needs to be arrested and held accountable," said Camacho.
