Assistant Broward State Attorney Charged With Drug Possession

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - An assistant state attorney with the Broward State Attorney's Office was suspended without pay after she was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

Molena Mompoint, 32, was arrested Monday in Wilton Manors.   Police stopped her for an expired tag and it was not registered to the vehicle she was driving, according to the police report.

In preparation to tow the car, the officer asked if there was anything illegal inside.  Mompoint reportedly said a few of her attorney friends had been in vehicle and "smoked weed" and "had Molly," according to the report.  The officer found a clear bag with .1 g of a white powder which later tested positive as methamphetamine.

Mompoint reportedly told the officer it belonged to one of her attorney friends.

In addition to the drug charge she was given two traffic citations.

Mompoint has been with the Broward State Attorney's office for about a hear and a half. She was most recently assigned to the County Court Unit and handled misdemeanor cases.

The Broward State Attorney's Office plans to ask the governor's office to assign her case to another circuit to avoid any conflict of interest.
